Network, network, network! We hear it all the time and it can be quite intimidating. As luck would have it, I ran into this article that proves less is more (https://lnkd.in/ejkwWcuU) However, building a strong, cohesive network still takes some work. Here are three quick tips for getting through your initial engagement:
1) When making a connection, ensure you know exactly what your career goals are – don’t rely on a new contact to figure that out for you. Your new contact will be focused on providing expert career advice to help you navigate your career goals.
2) Never ask a new connect to call you – Ask them for a good time to call them or who to call to schedule an appointment.
3). Prepare for your first meeting/conversation – research the company and new contacts career. Also, always follow-up with a thank you. Then set your calendar to reach out in 90 days with a follow-up on the progress of your career goals. It would be helpful to tie in a tip your connection provided that was really helpful. —
